Barukh Dayan Emet - Henry Wittenberg

Henry Wittenberg, noted Hall of Fame wrestler and coach, passed away Tuesday at the age of 91. He represented the United States in the Olympic Games of 1948 and 1952, bringing home gold and silver respectively. He had a career as a New York City police officer, retiring in 1954. He coached Yeshiva University's wrestling team as well as that of his alma mater, City College of New York. He also coached the United States national team and the United States Maccabiah team.

Wittenberg was one of the first successful wrestlers to lift weights. The practice had been discouraged in the erroneous belief that it would make athletes "muscle-bound."
